What is a Cannabinoid?

Cannabinoids are the main active compounds in cannabis. All cannabis plants share the same cannabinoids, whether they are type I cannabis plants (commonly referred to as marijuana) or type III cannabis plants (commonly referred to as hemp). The difference in type classification is determined by the amounts and ratios of THC to CBD the plant produces. We use cannabinoids derived from federally legal type III cannabis plants (hemp) in our products.

Cannabinoids refer to several structural classes of molecular compounds found in the cannabis plant. The most familiar cannabinoids are delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9THC), the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis and cannabidiol (CBD), the primary non-psychoactive cannabinoid. However, there are dozens more cannabinoids in cannabis, each providing their own unique benefits. In fact, scientists have discovered approximately 180 different cannabinoids in the cannabis plant.

STŌN Live Resin Gummies utilize specific cannabinoid combinations and terpene-rich live resin extract to achieve an exquisitely tailored, customized experience. To learn more about the cannabinoids in STŌN products, see the glossary below.

CBD

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the most abundant cannabinoid in hemp plants and offers a wide variety of health and wellness benefits. CBD is non-psychoactive, which means that CBD does not get one high. CBD interacts with the CB2 receptors in the human endocannabinoid system, which is part of the nervous system and is responsible for regulating an array of body system functions. CBD is known to such as mood, memory, pain, inflammation, and even fertility. It is known to help with stress, discomfort, addiction and a host of other issues.

CBG

Cannabigerol (CBG) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid often referred to as the mother of all cannabinoids, as all other cannabinoids develop from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), an acidic form of CBG. Studies have found CBG to have anti-cancer and anti-bacterial properties, and to be effective in reducing stress, pain and inflammation, improving focus , promoting bone growth, and more. CBG interacts with the endocannabinoid system by binding directly to both CB1 and CB2 receptors and might deliver its benefits to the system more efficiently as a result.

CBC

Cannabichromene (CBC) is a non-psychoactive minor cannabinoid best known for its anti-depressant properties. Studies show CBC elevates levels of anandamide, a brain molecule that produces feelings of happiness and bliss. CBC is also known to have anti-cancer properties, support skin and inhibit acne, protect brain cells, reduce pain and inflammation, and produce an enhanced encourage effect when combined with other cannabinoids.

CBN

Cannadinol (CBN) is a compound that is best known as the cannabinoid created when THC ages and breaks down. CBN is considered non-psychoactive, though it can enhance the relaxing effects of THC and other cannabinoids. CBN is known to be effective for pain and inflammation relief, muscle spasm suppression, and regulating sleep. Studies have also found CBN to be a powerful neuroprotectant and potent antibacterial, as well as effective in reducing intraocular pressure in the eyes.

CBT

Cannabicitran (CBT) is a non-psychoactive minor cannabinoid that combines the benefits of CBD and CBG. Research has found CBT to be a potent antioxidant with neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties. CBT is known to enhance the entourage effect of other cannabinoids, including amplifying the energy-boosting and focus-enhancing properties of CBG and THCV. Anecdotal reports suggest that CBT has stimulating and focus enhancing effects similar to caffeine.

THCV

Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) while similar to THC in molecular structure, provides a variety of pronounced and altogether different effects. THCV is mildly psychoactive only in very large amounts and is considered non-psychoactive in small amounts. THCV acts like a stimulant, increasing energy levels and clearing brain fog. Studies have found THCV to be effective in regulating blood sugar levels and reducing insulin resistance, suppressing appetite, and reducing panic attacks. It also has been found to help with Alzheimer’s and stimulate bone growth.

HHC

Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) is a minor cannabinoid primarily found in the seeds and pollen of hemp plants. HHC produces euphoric effects similar to that of THC but tends to be less heavy and more clear headed, and so is often described as a “super sativa”. Like THC, HHC is known for its uplifting, calming, and creativity enhancing effects. Studies have found HHC to possess impressive pain-blocking capabilities as well as effective in inhibiting breast cancer cell-induced angiogenesis and tumor growth.

Δ9THC

Tetrahydrocannabidinol (Δ9THC) is the primary psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis. Δ9THC is well known for its medicinal benefits such as reducing pain and nausea, treating anxiety and depression, improving mood, promoting relaxation, and more. Studies have found Δ9THC to have anti-cancer, anti-seizure, and anti-depressant properties. Δ9THC helps to boost the efficiency of other cannabinoids when combined.

What is a Terpene?

Terpenes are organic compounds that are produced in the resin glands of the cannabis plant. They serve as the primary module of essential oils and are responsible for the aroma and flavor characteristics of the plant. Together with cannabinoids, terpenes contribute to and enhance the overall synergistic healing benefits of the combined cannabis compounds. This is known as the ‘entourage effect’.

Terpenes are able to produce therapeutic benefits by interacting with the endocannabinoid system. Such benefits include anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-bacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, anti-tumor, anti-cancer, anti-anxiety and antidepressant properties. Terpenes are also known to help improve metabolism and circulation, offer neuroprotection, improve mood, memory and cognitive function, promote relaxation, and relieve pain.

Terpenes that lend a more uplifting, cerebral, stimulating, alert, energized, or focused effect are categorized as ‘sativa’ terpenes while terpenes that lend a more calming, soothing, relaxing, sedative, pain relieving effect are categorized as ‘indica’ terpenes. When sativa and indica strains are cross-bred, they create what is referred to as a ‘hybrid’ terpene profile.

STŌN Live Resin Gummies utilize terpene-rich live resin extract produced using fresh flower as opposed to dried and cured buds. This method retains the terpenes that are lost during the drying and curing process, preserving the full spectrum natural terpenes and cannabinoids at their peak potency for a high-quality, connoisseur-level product. When you consume a cannabis extract that is full-spectrum you are likely to experience a healing effect that is stronger and will last for a longer time.
